On May 30, 2025, Universal Ostrich Farms sent a detailed letter to all MPs across Canada outlining the situation and requesting urgent action. To assist you, the letter and a list of suggested questions are provided to help guide your conversation or message. Please review these materials before reaching out to your MP to ensure your communication is clear and impactful.

Email the Board of Directors at the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) to express your gratitude for their decision to reject ostrich carcasses at all landfill sites until the birds have been re-tested for avian flu.
You can use the sample letter below as a starting point and are encouraged to add your own thoughts. For greater impact, consider tailoring your message to individual board members. Refer to the contact list for their email addresses.

The RDCK Board of Directors has received an overwhelming outpouring of support from people around the world. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to send an email. At this point, the message has been well received, and continued emails may no longer be necessary.

Universal Ostrich Farms, a small remote farm in the beautiful Kootenays of British Columbia, has been ordered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to cull their entire herd of 400 healthy ostriches—animals they have raised for over 30 years. The farm is in urgent need of support to help cover legal and operational expenses following the court’s devastating decision to destroy their herd.
We warmly invite you to come show your support at Universal Ostrich Farms, located at 301 Langille Road, Edgewood, BC. Your presence matters—please come peacefully and respectfully, bringing kindness and support for the animals and the people who care for them.
You’re welcome to set up camp, but please make sure you bring enough food, water, and anything else you may need during your stay.
